The Western Divisional Board (SFGAA) is the administrative body for the Gaelic Athletic Association in Northern California, at present this encompasses the Greater Bay Area.
Gaelic Games have been played in the San Francisco area for over a hundred years, the board in it's present form has been active since the late 1970's.
The Michael Cusacks Football Club was founded in San Francisco in early 1989 by: Dermot Keating (Kerry), David Nagle (Kerry), Mike Casey (Kerry) and Niall Flynn (Kerry).
St Joseph's Hurling Club (Cumann Iomána Naomh Iosaf) was founded in 1995, bringing Gaelic Games to the people of Silicon Valley. A seven-year stretch of unprecedented success followed, with the men’s teams winning six hurling titles, two Gaelic football titles, and the women’s Gaelic football team winning their championship in 1999.
The IFHYL (Irish Football and Hurling Youth League) organizes youth leagues for both hurling and Gaelic football.
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA)is Ireland’s largest sporting organisation. It is celebrated as one of the great amateur sporting associations in the world.
